Gert Anklam – saxophone / sheng
Volker Jaekel – piano / portative
Gert Anklam and Volker Jaekel from Berlin have been playing together in various formations for several years.
In their current program for saxophone and piano, they deal with early music - by Josquin de Prez and Hans Leo Hassler, among others - which they interpret in a very unique and groovy way. In addition to modern arrangements of church hymns and their own compositions such as ES TAUT or KARAWANE, they span the musical spectrum to the Argentine tango by Astor Piazzolla.
They delight their audience with surprising and groovy improvisations.
The program is enhanced by the inclusion of rarely played instruments, such as the Chinese mouth organ Sheng (one of the oldest traditional Chinese musical instruments) and the portative (European, portable pipe organ from the 11th century).
The musical versatility of the duo ANKLAM & JAEKEL between world music, jazz, pop and classical music attracts young and old to their concerts.
